Caught in the grip of the city...

There is a song from the turn of the millennium by Deltron 3030, called "Madness", also one of Marv's favorite songs if I'm not mistaken.

This particular song been echoing in my thoughts for months now, it samples the song "Of Cities and Escapes" by The Poppy Family from 1970 with the line I used as title here.

The city is distracting, loud, and overally just pulloted in every possible way, if not by cars then it's by red light districts, pubs, and so on. Get lost for a sec in the beauty of it's architecture if you are lucky to be in such place and you are mistaken for a tourist.

For me the phrase is not about a physical place, it's much more about the state of mind and how the environment you percieve to be living in conditions it. I don't believe that is inherently a bad thing, everyone is conditioned to be some kind of way by external factors, but is it not great to visit the park atleast every once in a while? To what extent do we realise how much we are in the grip of our minds?

"I live in a one-room apartment, with windows on one side / I stare through the glass 'cross the water, to where the big, ugly city dies"

The freedom of will is as free as we make it to be.
